Retaining Walls
A retaining wall, besides being an attractive addition to your property, also transforms an awkward sloping bank into a useful garden or lawn area. A series of retaining walls can terrace a sloping section. Timber retaining walls are popular because they are cost effective and can be constructed by a reasonably experienced person. A retaining wall by definition retains earth and the higher the wall, the stronger the support post needs to be. Walls over 1.5m high or supporting a driveway or building will need a building consent, so if in doubt, see your local council.
