Treatment Guarantee

The basic process of treating Goldpine posts and poles is simple, highly controlled and constantly monitored. Radiata Pine, which has been peeled and steamed, is loaded onto bogies and pushed into a large horizontal treating cylinder. The cylinder door is hermetically sealed and a strong vacuum removes the majority of air from the cylinder and from the cells of the wood.

CCA oxide is pumped into the cylinder and pressure is raised to about 1400 kPa. This forces the preservative deep into the wood cells. The CCA oxide reacts with the wood sugars to form insoluble precipitates. When the entire sapwood volume has been penetrated with CCA oxide to its intended retention level (eg H5) the treatment process is complete. Excess treatment solution is pumped out of the cylinder and into a storage tank to be reused.

Pressure is returned to normal before the door is opened and the bogies are pulled out. The wet posts and poles are stacked under cover on a concrete floor for at least a week to ensure wood is dripfree and the chemical is completely fixed. The end result of this process is a product which will retain its structural integrity 10-20 times longer than untreated wood.

This earns the posts and poles a 50 year guarantee against fungal or insect attack.
